Funeral held for Kara Kennedy at 51




WASHINGTON - Kara Kennedy, the eldest of three children of the late Senator Ted Kennedy, was recalled at the funeral Wednesday a friend attentive and devoted mother who had a mischievous side, as his father.

Kara Kennedy died Friday after a workout in a health club in Washington. The 51-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2002, but underwent a successful surgery and treatment. Patrick Kennedy, said after his death that his cancer treatment has left her heart weakened and physically distributed. The District of Columbia medical examiner has not yet issued an official cause of death.

Kara Kennedy was born on February 27, 1960, Edward and Joan Kennedy, as his father was campaigning for his brother John F. Kennedy during the presidential primary. Soon after, in 1962, his father was elected to the Senate, taking the seat that his brother had occupied before winning the presidency. He served more than all the senators, but three in history.
Although she never sought elected, Kara Kennedy appeared with his father during his unsuccessful 1980 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, and she and her brother, Ted Kennedy Jr. helped organize the senator's reelection campaign in 1988.
